The Japanese work hard and play hard. Not matter what time of day you hop on the subway you will find salary men (and women) and folk from every different work sector imaginable making their way to and from work. Working and playing hard can get tiring, so it's only natural that after some hard work and drinks with the colleagues that they get some kip. More often than not, the one place they'll kip? On the train. It's like a national sport.
Guaranteed, every time you ride a train you'll find somebody asleep. But Japanese people sleep differently on Subway's to every body else because:
a) They genuinely look like they're dead.
b) They can fall asleep in any position anywhere on a subway car.
I was genuinely worried for some of the folk I saw KO'd on subway carts, because they honestly did look dead.
