We were supposed to go to Kyōto to check out the thousand gates. But we woke up late and my mate couldn't find his rail pass. I could've pissed off and let him because shoot: I had me a rail pass! But I'm not THAT much of a bastard. Plus, to be honest - I was not in the mood to train it to Kyōto. So we took the day to just wander around, and during our stroll we thought "Hey, let's head back to Den Den town!" We'd been to Den den town before, the same day we went to the Umeda sky building...or so we thought.
After a couple of hops onto the wrong train lines and getting directions from the ever helpful staff at subway stations who can speak way more English than they let on, we wandered onto a long road: full of arcades, quirky gadget shops, furniture stores, PC modding shops, video game stores, music stores, porn shops and every otaku related shop your mind could conjure. It was clear... THIS place right here was Den Den town. And knowing none of the other lot had been here before us made us feel a little exclusive. Especially because we came across stores we knew some of the other guys would've liked and busted nuts over.
Den Den town just had everything, and it helped that the weather was nice. Each shop had a unique quirk. The porn shops with their life size cardboard cut outs of ladies (possibly for sale - cutout holes optional). The gadget shops with life size mannequins in the window. A video game store with magazine cutouts making up the floor. There was always something to see.
