D'ya know: life's funny. I posted on my friend having lost his PlayStation 3 to the yellow light of death, and was exchanging comments with some red head about backing up data. It didn't occur to him to just use a USB key or his iPod to back up his game saves: because after all - if you check what is eating your consoles' hard drive space, you'll find it's not the game saves consuming it all: but game installs, demo's and downloadable games.
Despite my parting of wisdom, it didn't occur to me to back up my own games saves - so I thought I'd try. Only, the Xbox 360 won't allow users to copy any data between devices (You gotta love Microsoft!)
It's been revealed than an update will hit Xbox LIVE in a few weeks which will allow the support of USB devices, allowing gamers to shift over games saves and random memory scoffing shit easily. Sony were already way ahead of Microsoft here (as they have been in a couple of regards where space is concerned *cough*Blu-ray*cough*), but at least 360 owners have a solution for backing up their game saves and making space with the aid of external memory devices now.
If we all took the time to spring clean our console hard drives, we'd probably find most of the shit we have saved is just crap. I know I've got loads of demo's and trailers saved on my hard drive that could do with deleting.
