Exclusive Xbox 360 owners are probably laughing right now because they can access their shit online and game it up, and PSN users...well...can't. Not all of them anyway. And this is all because of Sony's PlayStation network being hacked like a mo' f**ka.
You know this shit is bad when international news is all over it. The UK national news loves nothing better than to sensationalize when shit goes wrong within the gaming world, as it gives clout to their unfounded all video games are evil tools for satanic worship, murder, social ostracizing and terrorism scheiße. The coverage is rather deserving in this instance given the severity of the situation, which goes beyond gaming feens unable to access their trophies and online game until their arses go numb, and doesn't so much teeter as it does Krogan charge into the matter of data protection being not so protected.
Sony could be facing serious charges over this. They will also be losing the trust of their gamers too. But this shit can easily be won back with Uncharted 3. When that game drops no PS3 owner will even remember this hacking shit. Unless of course it goes and happens again.
The PlayStation network has had a pretty rough time since its inception. The failure of Home, the backlash from PSN gold, people moaning about the constant lengthy updates, the whole thing going down for a day simply because of a leap year clock error last year, and now this. I almost feel sorry for Sony. But not as sorry as those who received bank statements and saw purchases made of Joe Danger, Hydrophobia, a 70 inch Sony Bravia TV and a Western union transfer they have no recollection of.
I was strongly considering buying a PlayStation 3 really soon, because my desire to play Heavy rain is slowly killing me inside. But I'll be waiting a little longer because of this PSN hack mess. And I will NOT be using my bank card to pay for anything through the PSN. This fear of people hacking online gaming accounts is what has had me refuse to purchase anything using my card on Xbox Live - because I recall a similar 'account compromise' debacle happening to Microsoft a good while back. If I need to renew my shit or buy Microsoft points, I go to GAME, buy my points card and redeem that shit on the console. We should all do the same. It's one less place which has our card details stored, because frankly our card detail are stored in one too many places as it is.
