It took me a dozen tweets, a bunch of e-mails and a couple of phone calls of a degree at which I can only describe as harassment, but I finally received my fucking Catwoman DLC code!! Ya see, I was one of the unfortunate sods who received no code with their copy of the game. Something which I chronicled in an unboxing video as well as the afore-linked blog post.
So, I guess I should talk about sexy Selina and how fucking awesome she is to play as.
As the trailer insisted, playing as Catwoman is not only a bit saucy and sexy, but it's great fun. Catwoman is a heck of a lot faster. Catwoman can scale buildings, crawl on ceilings, slide across the floor with her legs open and also crawl around on all fours. If Bayonetta were to witness Catwoman's sex game on the dirty streets, she would snatch the shit out of her wig and demand a showdown
One thing which captures you by the balls (a titty if you're a female) when you truly begin to explore Arkham city as the dark knight is the sense of exhilaration you get from grappling from building to building and gliding high above the city. Despite Batman not having the airborne freedom of Spider-Man, the game somehow manages to capture that very same essence of it. You would think this would be lost with Catwoman, but the sense of exhilaration is the same; although it's underlain with a sense of danger. The sense of danger you sense when playing as Catwoman is the same unsettling feeling you always got whenever you saw her in the animated series or Batman returns. You never quite know where you stand with her and where the lines are. And you feel no less unnerving of her even when you're controlling her - because you know umtilately, what you do as her will have repercussions on Batman and his goals. But being unable to pin Catwoman's motives down and her being the bad girl who can be a bit good makes her great fun to play as. She's faster than Batman. Much more nimble than Batman. And a heck of a lot more playful.
Character wise, as with the rest of the Arkham city cast, Catwoman's re-imagining feels right. Selina seems much younger, naive and less mentally fucked than other incarnations of Catwoman we've seen in the animated series and the films. But she still has that same sense danger and frivolousness to her that Catwoman has always had.
It's a shame I didn't get to see how her first 2 episodes were woven into Batman's quest. But from here on out, I'll get to see how it all ties in and ties up.
