Divorcing ghetto pizza. Finding new love with Domino's.

My new lover. For now...

I'm a creature of habit. It's something which I find comforting, but also limiting. Every time I'm on the cusp of trying something new, I find a reason not to; which usually ends up with me concluding that it would be easier just not to bother. This stems right down to the smallest seemingly insignificant things. Like ordering a pizza.

I know I'm fucked up.

For the past 3 years it has been a weekend ritual of mine to order a pizza from my local ghetto pizza joint. It's near to me, the pizzas are nice, the staff tell me my regular order when I ring up and the pizzas are huge and cheap. But recently my ghetto pizza joint has been messing up. I phone, place my order and tell them I will collect it in 10 minutes. I turn up 20 minutes later (I run on BMT - Black man time) to find that they forgot to make my pizza and that I have to wait. They sometimes overcook my shit, leaving the cheese brown and with the texture of a manila envelope. And I've continually found that their pizzas always leave me sat on the toilet first thing the following morning fighting for my life. I could moan and tell the ghetto pizza parlour manager how crap his establishment is, that I'm sick of the service and the staff's lack of attentiveness, but no longer spending my money with them says more than words ever could.

With me deciding to sack my ghetto pizza parlour once and for all, the healthiest thing for me to do would be to stop eating pizzas. But weekend pizzas are the one constant in my life right now which I look forward to. To sack my old pizza joint and not eat pizzas for the rest of my foreseeable life is one change too many. So I decided to take my business elsewhere. I figured, why not just try Domino's?

Despite being bombarded with advertising of Domino's in the early 00's, back when they sponsored The Simpsons and I used to watch Matt Groening's classic religiously every Sunday on Sky one; I'd only eaten a Domino's pizza for the first time in February of 2012. Every time my friends and I got together to record The gaming tea on a Friday evening, we'd order Domino's. I wasn't impressed. The size of the pizza was tiny and cost me twice the amount of my ghetto pizza. In my desperate bid to put Domino's in the running as I attempted to find somewhere new to order my weekend pizzas, I chalked my prior dislike to picking the wrong toppings and that I was probably spoilt on price and size with my ghetto pizza. Upon checking out Domino's website I saw they had some good deals on and I liked the choice, so I took the plunge.

From this moment on my life had changed.

First off, Domino's ordering system is painless and ingenious. I placed my order online. I didn't have to submit any card details by opting to pay on collection and was able to track the progress of my pizza online, so I knew exactly when to pick it up. This was a far shy from the ghetto pizza parlour, where I'd head to collect my pizza unbeknownst that my pizza wasn't ready to collect because nobody had bothered to write down my order and make the fucking thing.

The money shot

The pizza itself tasted nice. In fact, it was a type of heaven. The pizza costs twice as much as my ghetto pizza, but it tasted so nice I sat and shed a tear, the ordering experience was brilliant and I didn't have chronic shits the next morning. So it's looking like Domino's pizza is taking my money every weekend from here on out.

Maybe I should take this as a sign that change is good sometimes. Maybe.
